First Australian Winner for Bivouac – More to Come

Tara Madgwick - Saturday January 11

Darley homebred first season sire Bivouac sired his first winner in New Zealand last month in Group winning filly Intention and has now broken the ice in Australia with the speedy filly Luana Miss making a winning debut at Ascot on Saturday.

Trial watchers were awake to Luana Miss, who bolted in with a trial at Belmont last month and she was sent out favourite and delivered the goods.

Trained by Trevor Andrews and ridden by Shaun O’Donnell, Luana Miss chimed in at the furlong and powered to the line to post a soft two length win in the 1000m dash.

Luana Miss was a $110,000 Magic Millions Perth purchase from the Western Breeders Alliance for her trainer and is the third winner from four to race from stakes-placed Little Bit Ditsy, a half-sister by Bel Esprit to stakes-winner Vienna Miss.

Bivouac took a long time to have his first runner, but has now has six with Group II winner Intention and Luana Miss both winners and three more placed including Swag and Cavalry Girl, who look like certain winners in coming weeks.

His progeny may have been good buying at Magic Millions with 11 sold at an average $153,182 with Ciaron Maher purchasing three of his top four sellers, while McEvoy Mitchell / Belmont Bloodstock got his highest priced filly from Everyday Lady for $270,000.

Good judges obviously think Bivouac has something.
