Astute Purchase $300,000 Trapeze Artist Filly – This Family is Humming!

Tara Madgwick - Thursday January 9

Widden Stud were making all the headlines at Magic Millions on Thursday when selling the record priced $2.8million Snitzel colt from Humma Humma and the very next lot into the ring, also from Widden Stud, provided a unique opportunity for an ‘astute’ bloodstock agent.

$300,000 Trapeze Artist filly from Hummalong

Lot 490 is a lovely filly by Trapeze Artist from Hummalong, a winning half-sister to Group III winner Humma Humma, whose second foal is the record-breaking colt, read about him here. This filly is closely related to the record breaker as his sire Snitzel is the sire of her sire Trapeze Artist.

Louis Le Meteyer of Astute Bloodstock signed for the filly at $300,000 for Frank and Christine Cook’s Mystery Downs and given the potential for upgrades in this family, which is being bred to the best stallions, she looks an intriguing investment for the future.

The first foal from Hummalong was another Trapeze Artist filly that made $360,000 at this sale last year when bought by Katsumi Yoshida and she has now been exported to Japan to race as Julia Florida.

Hummalong is owned by the Viera family so is married to Trapeze Artist and produced another filly by him last spring and is back in foal to him again.

Another half-sister to Humma Humma and Hummalong is stakes-winning mare Tycoon Humma, who was bought by Yulong for $975,000 at the Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale in 2023. She missed in her first season at stud and appears to now be in foal to Alabama Express and they also have another half-sister in Star Humma, by Zoustar.

Star Humma had a Pierata filly last year and was then also covered by Alabama Express.

Humma Mumma, who is the dam of all the Humma mares turns 20 this year and is still active producing a colt by Bivouac last spring before being covered by Alabama Express.
