Stallion Syndicate Swoop on $725,000 Wootton Bassett Colt

Tara Madgwick - Thursday January 9

The first crop of Australian bred Wootton Bassett (GB) two year-olds have already created a big impression here and China Horse Club / Newgate Bloodstock and partners were quick to secure one of his star youngsters at the Gold Coast paying $725,000 on Thursday for the colt from Hussyanna.

$725,000 Wootton Bassett (GB) colt from Hussyanna.

Consigned and bred by Gerry Harvey’s Baramul Stud, the colt is a half-brother to three stakes-placed horses from the family of multiple Group I winning sprinter Buffering, who won over $7million in prizemoney.

“He is by a great sire and this is a big, strong colt and very mature. We like him a lot and we were happy to get him,” said Newgate Farm’s Henry Field.

“He’s a very powerful individual. Big, deep girth and a real Aussie style of a Wootton Bassett.

“The stallion is obviously going to be an important stallion and Hussonet mares are very good genetically, so if he can run he is obviously going to be very valuable as a stallion prospect.”

China Horse Club / Newgate Bloodstock and partners tested the waters last year with Wootton Bassett paying $625,000 for a colt from Southbank at Inglis Easter that has been named Providence and is in work with Chris Waller.
