Antique Miss the Latest Stakes Winner To A Famous Family

Craig Tompson - Thursday January 2

It took 26 starts but Antique Miss became the latest stakes winner into a famous family nurtured by legendary Western Australian breeder Bob Peters in the Group II La Trice Classic (1800m) at Ascot on New Years Day.

With little early speed, Chris Parnham took the Michael Grantham trained daughter of Domesday to the front and dictated the terms and she kicked strongly into the straight to hold off Miss Skyhigh (Harry Angel) by a neck with Rusty Dreams (Universal Ruler) third.

Antique MIss wins the La Trice Classic

The win takes her record to eight wins, six seconds, and five thirds from 26 starts with earnings of $387,877.

“There was no pace at all was there,” said Bob Peters.

“It was a pretty good win considering the other horse had the drop on her all the way. What a game little mare.”

“When no one wanted to lead I was happy to take it up and just control things,” said Parnham.

“As we’d had it pretty soft she was pretty strong at the back end.”

Antique Miss is the second foal of Redoute’s Choice mare Antique Belle, a dual stakes winning daughter of Group I Victorian Oaks placed Antique (Metal Storm).

Antique left eight runners for eight winners at stud, which include the stakes winner Broadway Belle, dam of dual Group I winner Regal Power and Group II WA Derby winner Action.

However more impressive was another daughter, the blue hen, Arcadia, a full sister to Antique Belle, who left Group I winner Arcadia Queen as well as three other stakes winners, Arcadia Dream, Arcadia Prince and Arcadia Rose all bred and raced by Peters.

Antique Belle has an unraced two-year-old filly by Pierro named Boutique Belle and foaled a filly by Pierro in 2024.

Antique Miss is the 20th stakes winner for Domesday who was retired in 2022.
