Juvenile Trial Watch Gold Coast - Magic Millions Contenders

Craig Tompson - Wednesday January 1

A very interesting set of trials at the Gold Coast on New Year’s Eve which saw five two-year-old winners including a sizzling Magic Millions Classic warm up along with unraced winners for Farnan, Too Darn Hot, Capitalist and Hellbent, all no doubt with an eye on the $500,000 The Debut on Magic Millions day.

Impressive Victorian debut winner and Magic Millions 2YO Classic second favourite Invincible Woman scorched around the track, beating a few three-year-olds in the process.

Invincible Woman

She ran the 800m in 45.57, last 600m in 32.82. The other 800m heat which saw older horses Clover’s Prince and Yellow Brick finish alongside each other in 45.61, last 600m in 32.9.

By I Am Invincible out of Big Brown mare Showcase, Invincible Woman’s debut saw her win the Magic Millions Vic 2YO Classic at Caulfield Heath.

She was a $250,000 buy for Kennewell Racing, Group One Bloodstock and Lizzie Jelfs’s Race With Lizzie and will go the Magic Millions running not only for the first prizemoney but also the Racing Women’s Bonus.

History shows no horse in the last 15 years has been able to win the Magic Millions 2YO race having had only the one start but will this hit out negate that fact for this filly?

Heat Three gave us our first look at another promising one for Farnan in Profoundly, a filly out of Profound Wisdom for Lee Freedman which cruised to the line to win comfortably.

She was a $65,000 buy for her trainer from Sledmere Stud at the Inglis Classic Sale and is a half-sister to stakes winning 2YO Sebonack who also finished fourth in the Group I Blue Diamond.

Sledmere are selling her half-sister by Stay Inside at the Magic Millions Gold Coast as Lot 805.

Heat four saw yet another promising Too Darn Hot youngster win by a big space and clearly with something to offer when she heads to the races.

Darn Hot Lady, by Too Darn Hot out of Lightfeet Lady (Lion Heart) was having her second trial after finishing third at the Gold Coast back in October.

She was a $140,000 buy for her trainer from Eureka Stud at the Magic Millions Gold Coast on 2024 and is from a family which includes dual Group I Derby winner Rebel Raider and smart middle distance galloper Shamoline Warrior.

Heat five saw another impressive performance from another Sledmere Stud graduate in Koolatah Queen for trainer Chris Anderson.

By Hellbent out of Not A Single Doubt mare Killer Queen, Koolatah Queen was having her second trial, and on a quick turnaround, having been seen first time out on December 23 when 4th in a trial at Doomben.

From a mare that has had three to race for three winners and a half-sister to stakes winners Metallic Crown and Snitzepeg, Koolatah Queen was a $220,000 buy for Mick Malone Bloodstock from Sledmere at Magic Millions Gold Coast in 2024.

Sledmere will offer her half-brother by Zousain at this year’s Magic Millions Gold Coast as Lot 562.

The final juvenile heat saw another impressive performance from unraced Capitalist colt Steel Knight.

From the Annabel Neasham & Rob Archibald stable, he is out of Snitzel mare Sybella and cost her trainer, along with Will Johnson Bloodstock, $250,000 at the Magic Millions Gold Coast from the Willow Park Stud draft.

It was the colt’s third trial, and best trial, having been seen twice previously in NSW on the Kensington Track and at Hawkesbury.

Steel Knight is out of a half-sister to the stakes winners Tawteen and Well Sprung, and Newgate Farm will offer her half-brother by Home Affairs as Lot 515 at the Inglis Premier Yearling Sale in March.
