Hot Debut 2YO Winner

Tara Madgwick - Friday December 27

The Phillip Stokes stable made it two promising juvenile winners in two days when they produced Too Darn Hot (GB) filly Hot Whiskers to score at Mornington on Friday following on from a debut win for Zousain filly La Roux at Morphettville on Boxing Day.

Hot Whiskers was sent out favourite in the small field of five and got the job done for Daniel Stackhouse when forging clear to win the 1000m dash by a length and a half in steady time.

Bred and retained to race in partnership by Ian Cornell, Hot Whisker looks to have a bright future and like her stablemate La Roux has aspirations towards the Group I MRC Blue Diamond in February.

“A big thanks to Ian (Cornell) who bred her and Neil Jenkinson who recommended I train her,” said Phillip Stokes.

“She jumped well and put herself there and she will take a lot out of that and she is a nice filly going forward. Couldn’t be happier with that.

“We’ll see how she pulls up and might even keep the dream alive and go to a Prelude (Blue Diamond) or something like that.”

Hot Whiskers is the third winner from three to race from Cries and Whiskers, an unraced half-sister to stakes-winners Global Warming and Pure Purrfection, the dam of stakes-winners Outback Barbie (dam of this season’s 2YO stakes-winner Hi Barbie) and Barbie’s Sister.

Cries and Whiskers had a filly this spring by another of the Darley shuttlers in Pinatubo (IRE).
