Breednet - Sunday December 22

A double for Brave Smash, including a new winner, also new winners for Hellbent and Kermadec, and three yearling catalogue updates amongst seven Australasian bred winners at Sha Tin on Sunday.

Brave Smash had a big day at Sha Tin on Sunday

Race 2 (Class 4) - Ka Ying Attack (3g Too Darn Hot (GB) x Refreshing (Stratum) for David Hall, ridden by Matthew Poon.

His second win from three starts. The only runner Too Darn Hot has had to date in HK. Wasn’t offered at public auction, having been withdrawn from the NZB Ready To Run Sale.

His third dam is Monsoon Wedding so goes back to the mighty Shantha’s Choice.

Race 3 (Class 4) – Super Legends (4g Brave Smash (JPN) x Devil's Harmony (NZ) (Pentire) for Danny Shum, ridden by James McDonald.

It’s his third win from 16 starts, and second win this season.

Brave Smash has only had three runners in HK, with two winners, the other being Divano (ex Been Scene (Bianconi)), also a winner on this card.

The full sister to Super Legends is Lot 158 at the Inglis Classic Sale with Bhima Stud.

Race 4 (Class 4, 1400m) – Another World (4g Kermadec (NZ) x Our Squeezer (Redoute's Choice) for Benno Yung, ridden by Jerry Chau.

A new winner for Kermadec at his third start, Another World was a $130,000 purchase for Tartan Meadow Bloodstock from the Westbury Stud draft at the NZB Karaka Book 1 and becomes Kermadec’s fourth winner from 11 HK runners.

The dam is a daughter of the remarkable blue hen, Imposingly, who has had 12 foals of racing age, all winners, including six stakes winners, including the NZ Horse Of The Year Bonneval.

Race 5 (Class 4 1200m) – Sky Joy (3g Hellbent x Magic Of Dreams (Magic Albert) for Ricky Yiu and Jerry Chau.

A new winner for Hellbent at his second start after a narrow second on debut in November.

Sky Joy was a $24,000 purchase from Yarraman Park at Inglis Classic, then a successful pinhook as a $210,000 purchase for Ricky Yiu from the JCS Thoroughbreds draft at the Inglis Ready2Race Sale. He hails from the family of Yes Yes Yes and In Her Time,

Hellbent has now had three winners from nine runners in HK.

Race 7 (Class 3 1200m) – Lady’s Choice (5g Charm Spirit (IRE) x No Pushover (Pins) for Michael Chang, ridden by James McDonald.

Win number four and second for the season for Lady’s Choice, originally a $25,000 yearling buy at Karaka Book One in 2021.

Charm Spirit has had 16 winners from 31 runners in HK.

The half-brother to Lady’s Choice by Satono Aladdin is Lot 150 with Ardsley Stud at Karaka Book 1.

Race 8 (Class 3 1200m) – Divano (4g Brave Smash (JPN) x Been Scene (Bianconi) for Francis Lui, ridden by James McDonald.

It was back-to-back wins for Divano having won on International Day and now has the record of nine starts, four wins, four placings, with two wins from four starts this season.

An upwardly mobile one for a stallion that has had only three HK runners for two winners.

Race 10 (Class 2 1200m) – Raging Blizzard (5g Per Incanto (USA) x Perfect Beat (Magnus)) for John Size, ridden by Antoine Hamelin.

It’s Raging Blizzard’s fifth win from 12 starts.

The half-brother by Turn Me Loose is Lot 768 at Karaka Book 1 with Jamieson Park.
