First Australian Stakes Winner for Blue Point With Tough Juvenile

Breednet - Saturday December 21

Blue Point had his long awaited first Australian stakes winner when tough two-year-old filly Icarian Dream overcame a slipped saddle to take the Group III Magic Millions B.J. McLachlan Stakes at Eagle Farm on Saturday.

Blue Point

Having her fourth start as a December juvenile, Icarian Dream (2f Blue Point (IRE) x Teebo) had to race wide midfield, however with cover, and upon straightening loomed large, and quickly, to have the race in her keeping with 200m to go.

Ridden by Jason Collett, the Ciaron Maher trained youngster ultimately defeated Cool Archie (Cool Aza Beel) by 1.5 lengths with The Playwright (Written By) third.

“Saddle was slipping a bit on her,” said Collett afterwards.

“It was a bit uncomfortable.

“Her turn of foot is electric. She came at them very quickly.

“It’s a very long straight for a two-year-old, especially when you’re in the middle but it was easy.

The pint-sized filly heads next to the $3million Magic Millions 2YO Classic, where she has now firmed into second favourite behind Memo, which finished an eye-catching second to O’ Ole at the Wyong Magic Million lead up last week.

The

win takes her record to two wins and a second from 4 starts with earnings of $273,600.

Bred by Victorian farm Three Bridges, Icarian Dream is the second foal of Stryker mare Teebo, a winning daughter of NZ Gorup One winner Recurring.

In the sale ring, she has been purchased twice by her trainer as it turns out.

Icarian Dream was a $300,000 Magic Millions purchase.

Initially a $310,000 purchase for Ciaron Maher Bloodstock from the Three Bridges draft at the MM Gold Coast National Weanling Sale, then a $300,000 purchase for Ciaron Maher Bloodstock from the Sledmere Stud draft at the MM Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

Icarian Dream is the 14th lifetime stakes-winner and first in Australia for Blue Point who currently sits in the top five second season sires in Australia by money behind barn mate Too Darn Hot and second on the second season winner’s list, also behind Too Darn Hot.

He is coming off a successful northern hemisphere season, finishing eighth on the General sires list, splitting Justify (7th) and Frankel (9th)
