Late 210,000 guineas Sale for Savabeel Mare in foal Too Darn Hot

Media Release - Wednesday December 18

The five-year-old broodmare SEDAKA, offered in foal to TOO DARN HOT on a Southern Hemisphere cover, has been sold for a record 210,000 guineas to Kestrel Thoroughbreds’ Bruce Slade on behalf of Nocab Racing, making her the top priced lot in the Tattersalls Online December Sale and the highest priced broodmare ever sold on the platform.

Savabeel mare Sedaka sold for 210,000 guineas.

The daughter of SAVABEEL, who was consigned by Watership Down Stud, was twice Group placed as a three-year-old and is a half-sister to the exciting SUIT YOURSELF. Nine-time Champion Sire in New Zealand, SAVABEEL is also the broodmare sire of 32 Stakes winners including 5 at Group 1 level.

Following the sale, successful purchaser Bruce Slade said: “Nocab Racing are building up a very select broodmare band with high-end profiles and Sedaka fit that as a Group performer by a Champion Sire in Savabeel. I have a really healthy respect for Too Darn Hot who’s doing the job in both hemispheres. The mare will stay in Europe with the view to being bred to Too Darn Hot or another Australian compatible UK based sire in 2025 then we’ll look to bring her home from there.”

Alongside seven other broodmares in the Southern Hemisphere Session, SEDAKA was covered by Champion Sire TOO DARN HOT to southern hemisphere time. The session saw four lots sell for a total of 640,000 guineas at an average of 160,000 guineas.

Tattersalls Online Sales Manager Katherine Sheridan added: “The December Online Sale, featuring the inaugural sale of southern hemisphere covered mares, has exceeded expectations with multiple records broken. The sale of Sedaka for 210,000 guineas represents the highest price for a broodmare to be offered on Tattersalls Online whilst the sale turnover of 940,650 guineas is a record for a Tattersalls Online sale since the platform’s inception.”

“The joint venture with Inglis Digital has been the first collaboration of its kind and we thank all the team at Inglis for their assistance and promotion of this concept. The success of the inaugural Southern Hemisphere Session has opened a gateway of opportunities that we can look to build on for the future. We are very grateful for the support of our vendors and purchasers and extend our most sincere thanks to all who have supported the Tattersalls Online sales.”

Reflecting on the inaugural Southern Hemisphere Session, Inglis CEO Sebastian Hutch commented: “One of the best things about digital sales are their capacity to offer timely, cost-effective sales solutions for both buyers and vendors. The collaboration with Tattersalls through their December Online Sale has worked out very well. The stock was well promoted and engagement with the sale was good, so I think it lays a solid platform for the development of more similar concepts in the future. It’s very exciting.”

The next sale to take place on the Tattersalls Online platform will be the January Online Sale on 14th – 15th January. Entries for the January Online Sale will be accepted until Friday 3rd January and can be made through the Tattersalls Online website at www.tattersallsonline.com
