Daysee Doom All Courage in Millie Fox Stakes

Mark Smith - Sunday February 25

There would be few more popular horses racing on Saturday than Ron Quinton's Daysee Doom, and for good reason, punters love a trier and few try harder than Daysee Doom.

The daughter of Domesday 8 wins, 3 seconds and 2 thirds from 18 starts with earnings of $823,575 following her victory in the Group II Millie Fox Stakes (1300m) at Rosehill.

Third in the same race last year behind In Her Time, Daysee Doom needed to call on all of her famed courage to turn back one challenge after another to defeat the Gerald Ryan-trained Girl Sunday (Encosta de Lago) by a head with a short-half-head back to Chris Waller's Foxplay (Foxwedge) in third. "It was a huge run," winning jockey Andrew Adkins said.

"Coming into the race today I wasn't convinced I'd be on the fittest horse in the race.

"About a furlong out I felt she was coming to the end of her run but she just doesn't know when she's beaten. She tries her heart out and has got so much bottom to her."

Quinton said the Group I Coolmore Classic (1500m) in three weeks at Rosehill would be Daysee Doom's next start. She finished fourth in the race last year.

"Daysee is as tough as nails, tougher than me that's for sure," Quinton said. "It's good for Andrew too.

"He's not long out of his time so it's important for him to make the most of any opportunities he gets in big races.

Retained to race by her breeders, Daysee Doom is the only foal from stakes-placed Mister C (USA) mare See a Victory, who comes from the family of stakes-winners Cooldini and Correct Amoondo.

Domesday stands at Aquis Queensland at a fee of $8,800. He has two lots on offer at the Inglis Premier.
