One to Watch – Geelong

Tara Madgwick - Thursday December 5

There was only a small field for the juvenile maiden at Geelong on Thursday, but the winner was a $600,000 Inglis Easter colt by Snitzel offered in the Widden Stud draft and he might prove to be well above average.

Trained by Anthony and Sam Freedman, Beskar was a short priced favourite with Blake Shinn in the saddle for the 1121m scamper and enjoyed a good run in transit behind the leader before showing his class.

Despite racing greenly when he came off the bridle, Beskar warmed to the task and hit the line well to win by a couple of lengths.

“He’s a quality two year-old in good hands and can hopefully keep going forward,” said Blake Shinn.

“I think he had a fair bit up his sleeve on the line and it was great placement to bring him here today for a confidence boosting win and to see where we’re at and pick off to something a bit better going forward.”

Beskar was a $600,000 Inglis Easter purchase from Widden Stud.

Bred by Widden Stud in partnership, Beskar was purchased by Dean Hawthorne Bloodstock and runs for Jonathan Munz's Pincecliff Racing. He is the second winner from Group II winning New Approach (IRE) mare Sword of Light, a half-sister to stakes-winner Sword of Justice from a proven Contract Racing female family with his third dam Group III winning blue hen Razor Blade, who left four stakes-winners headed by Group I winning sprinter Flamberge.

Sword of Light has no yearling for the 2025 sales, but has foaled this spring producing a colt by Zoustar.
