First Winner for North Pacific

Tara Madgwick - Sunday December 1

Newgate Farm’s handsome young sire North Pacific joined the growing list of first season sires to put a winner on the board before Christmas with the Liam Birchley trained colt Brazen Sailor saluting at the Gold Coast on Saturday.

Making his debut in the 1000m maiden following a fourth placing at his only previous trial, Brazen Sailor handled the inclement weather to power through along the inside and win by a length running away.

Braz

en Sailor was a $60,000 Magic Millions Book 2 purchase from Valiant Stud for Bloodstock Solutions and is the first foal of three time winning Denman mare Commute, who traces back to the Sweet Rose branch of a great old Kiwi female family that has produced Group I winners Ilovethiscity and Donna Rosita.

Brazen Sailor was a $60,000 MM Book 2 purchase.

North Pacific is a Group III winning son of Brazen Beau, who has already earned his stripes as a sire of sires thanks to another young Newgate sire Tassort, whose fee jumped from $11,000 last year to $38,500 this year in the wake of his burgeoning success.

North Pacific has been well supported covering 438 mares in his first three seasons and is priced at $16,500 this spring.
