Street Cry gelding supplemented to Kentucky Derby 2018

Darryl Sherer - Tuesday February 20

Last weeks Group III UAE 2000 Guineas (1600m) winner Gold Town will be supplemented to the Kentucky Derby.

The Godolphin-owned gelded son of Street Cry is headed next to the Group II UAE Derby at Meydan on March 31 however, trainer Charlie Appleby has told the Godolphin website Gold Town will be supplemented to North America's most famous race.

"I have discussed it with His Highness Sheikh Mohammed, who believes Gold Town deserves a supplementary entry to the Kentucky Derby," Appleby said.

"Like everybody else, His Highness was impressed by what Gold Town was able to achieve in the UAE 2000 Guineas.

"He was visually impressive, winning by 10 and a half lengths, and that was backed up by the clock." Gold Town

Gold Town ran the 1600m on dirt in 1:37.77 and Appleby said the Kentucky Derby is a real option.

"He has come out of the race very well," Appleby said. "He's very straightforward to train, and he has already proved he can handle long-distance travel.

"He's got a good brain , and a good temperament. We will run him next in the UAE Derby, and if that goes well, we will press on to Kentucky."

Gold Town raced in England last year winning at Newmarket and Newbury and is the 116th stakes winner for Street Cry, responsible for the 2007 Kentucky Derby Street Sense who stands under the Darley banner at Jonabell Farm in Kentucky.
