Juvenile Trial Watch - Randwick and Wyong

Tara Madgwick - Tuesday November 26

There were some interesting juvenile heats at the Randwick trials on Tuesday morning with Magic Millions eligible youngsters out in force including several colts from the Waterhouse Bott stable, a blueblood filly with a full brother entered for MM 2025 and at Wyong first season sire Anders had a stylish winner trained by Sara Ryan that is also MM eligible.

Extreme Choice colt Tempestuous split his Waterhouse Bott trained stablemates King Kirk and North England when finishing second in the Group III ATC Breeders Plate and looked super sharp leading all the way to win his heat by alength and three-quarters under a hold with Nash Rawiller on board.

Tempestuous was a $375,000 Magic Millions purchase for Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott/Kestrel Thoroughbreds from Newgate Farm, who retain a share in his ownership which may prove a masterstroke.

Tempestuous was a $375,000 Magic Millions purchase.

He has a fascinating pedigree being from Windradyne (GB), an imported half-sister by Champion Australian 2YO Sepoy to 2014 Champion Older European Sprinter and five time G1 winner Sole Power.

The next heat was deep one in terms of quality colts and produced a good finish with the first five all within two lengths of the winner which was the Waterhouse Bott trained Exceed and Excel colt Albany Road who came from back in the field to win. Second was Wootton Bassett (GB) colt Pallaton from juvenile SW Anevay and third was Lancelot du Lac, the half-brother by Flying Artie to Golden Slipper winner Lady of Camelot and Group winning fillies Queen of the Ball and Platinum Jubilee. This guy is the fourth foal of blue hen Miss Debutante and is her first colt…. No pressure!!

Albany Road was a $650,000 Magic Millions purchase from Rosemont Stud for Suman Hedge Bloodstock (FBAA)/Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott/Kestrel thoroughbreds. His dam Miss Toorak Flyer has produced a couple of Group winning fillies with her first two foals in Flyer and Treasurway, so again no pressure, but can she make it three o the trot? Quite possibly.

Albany Road was a $650,000 Magic Millions purchase.

Fourth in the heat was Group III ATC Breeders Plate winner King Kirk given a quiet time by Tim Clark and super interesting was expensive Chris Waller trained Zoustar colt Fermoy, a $1.9 million Inglis Easter purchase for Tom Magnier from Segenhoe Stud. He’s the third foal of multiple G1 placed stakes-winning Not a Single Doubt mare Fundamentalist, whose first two foals (colts by Zoustar and Written Tycoon) have not set the world on fire, but maybe third time lucky.

First season sire King’s Legacy put a winner in the board with the Belinda Bateman homebred filly Satin’s Legacy pushing forward to lead for Tim Clark in her first trial and she kept on pretty well to win by three-quarters of a length with the Godolphin runner Parfumier steaming home for second.

Satin’s Legacy is the third foal of stakes-winning Pierro filly Satin Slipper, whose first two foals are G1 placed stakes-winner I Am Unstoppable and stakes-placed Satin Stiletto with grand-dam Satin Shoes winning the Group II ATC Silver Slipper and third dam Star Satire a Group I winner, so she’s bred in the purple!

Newgate Farm will offer the full brother to Satin’s Legacy at Magic Millions as Lot 885.

Anders filly Sapling made a good impression stepping out in her first trial, tracking the pace and finishing on well when asked to win by half a length running more than a second quicker than the other two year-old heat at Wyong won by Tassort filly Wollzeile from the Kris Lees stable.

Sapling was a $130,000 Magic Millions purchase for Domeland from the Sledmere stud draft and is a half-sister to four winners from Sop, a placed half-sister to stakes-winner Con’s Amy. She is well stamped by her sire Anders and has his appealing blaze making her easy to spot!

Sapling was a $130,000 Magic Millions purchase.
