Sire Table Snapshot – Halfway Through Flemington Carnival

Tara Madgwick - Thursday November 7

The Flemington Carnival has two more days to run with the $1million Group I VRC Oaks today and then three more G1 races on Saturday all worth $3million, so how does the Australian General Sires List look at the halfway point of this time honoured carnival.

Big money racing also continues at Rosehill on Saturday with the Group III $1million ATC Golden Gift (1100m) for two year-olds and Listed $2million ATC Five Diamonds (1800m) for five year-olds with both races not going to be recognized as Black Type events by Arion.

Pride of Dubai holds his place at the top of the sires list and has a runner in the Oaks today and all three of the G1 races at Flemington with his star performers Bella Nipotina, Pride of Jenni, Desert Lightning and Deny Knowledge (IRE) all engaged for Saturday.

Snitzel remains the leader by stakes-winners (9) and Zoustar is setting the pace for winners (78).

Extreme Choice has made his way into the Top 10 by earnings courtesy of his surprise Melbourne Cup winner Knight’s Choice and No Nay Never and Per Incanto (USA) have also jumped in courtesy of UK raider Lake Forest winning the $10million Golden Eagle and Gringotts (NZ) winning the $3million Big Dance.

Interesting piece of trivia, Gringotts was already a stakes-winner last season, whatever the Black Type status of the Big Dance, and the horse he beat when winning the Listed BRC Members Handicap (1600m) in May was Knight’s Choice.
