Rosemont and Partners Stakes Quinella on Cup Day

Tara Madgwick - Tuesday November 5

Written Tycoon posted his second new stakes-winner on Melbourne Cup Day when promising three year-old gelding Catoggio took out the Listed VRC Amanda Elliot Stakes (1400m)  for Rosemont Stud and partners, who also race the second horse Bosustow.

Trained by Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott, Catoggio is no stranger to Flemington having finished fourth on debut in the Group III VRC Maribyrnong Plate last year.

He broke his maiden at Geelong two starts ago and produced a career best effort to win this assignment, kicking on strongly in the lead for Jye McNeil to win by half a length taking his overall record to two wins from seven starts with prizemoney just shy of $160,000.

A $460,000 Magic Millions purchase from the Baramul Stud draft for Rosemont Alliance/Suman Hedge Bloodstock (FBAA), Catoggio is a half-brother to stakes-winner Palazzo Spirit and is the second stakes-winner among three winners from stakes-winner Palazzo Pubblico.

Baramul Stud sold an I Am Invincible colt from Palazzo Pubblico at Magic Millions this year for $750,000 to China Horse Club/Newgate/Go Bloodstock/Trilogy and while she has no yearling for the sales in 2025 having missed in 2023, she has foaled this spring producing a filly by So You Think.

Catoggio is the 68th stakes-winner for Written Tycoon, who earlier in the day sired Tycoon Star to win the Group III VRC Maribyrnong Plate.
