Juvenile Trial Watch – Rosehill

Tara Madgwick - Monday November 4

Two heats at the Rosehill trials on Monday morning over 900m and the quickest of those was won by an expensive son of Golden Slipper winning first season sire Farnan.

Trained by Gerald Ryan and Sterling Alexiou, King of Pop was sent around in a heat that featured a couple of runners from the Waterhouse Bott stable and one of those was Anders filly Mrs Flanders, who was having her second trial and began like she was shot out of a gun. She quickly took charge in front and King of Pop settled behind her before surging home to beat the filly by half a length with six lengths back to the next horse.

King of Pop was the second highest priced yearling from the first crop of Farnan, bought at Magic Millions by his trainers for $800,000 from the draft of Mick Malone’s North.

$800,000 Magic Millions purchase, King of Pop is a lovely looking colt.

He is from stakes-placed All Too Hard mare Za Zi Bar, a half-sister to Group I winner Rediener and stakes-winner Rathlin from the family of champion sire Snitzel and $11million earning Group I winner Private Eye.

The other heat also produced a winner for the Ryan and Alexiou stable with Calyx (GB) colt Good Hotspur improving at his second trial to get past Telling, a son of another first season sire in Graff. Also keep an on Woottom Bassett (GB) colt Gallo Nero a nice fourth in his first trial in the colours of the late Colin McKenna.
