Juvenile Trial Watch – Randwick

Tara Madgwick - Friday November 1

The barrier trials at Randwick on Friday morning featured two heats for juveniles won by a filly that placed in the Group III ATC Gimcrack Stakes and a colt from an outstanding producer that has had six foals to race all winners!

Ole Kirk filly O’ Ole turned in a terrific effort on debut to finish second to Bel Merci in the Gimcrack and has been kept in work by Bjorn Baker with the $1million Golden Gift on Saturday week in mind. She found the line in style for Tommy Berry to win by three-quarters of a length.

Also winning for the Bjorn Baker stable in slightly quicker time was blue-blood Capitalist colt Hayek, who hit the ground running to take up the lead. Despite his high head carriage and looking a little unsettled in transit, he was still able to win for Jason Collett in scoring by a length, but will need to learn to relax and find his rhythm.

A $300,000 Magic Millions purchase from Bhima Thoroughbreds for Bjorn Baker Racing/Clarke Bloodstock Pty Ltd , Hayek is a half-brother to dual Group I winner Stratum Star, Group III winner Prague, Group placed Serenade and to the dam of this season’s Group placed filly Declichy Boulevard.

Hayek was a $300,000 Magic Millions purchase.

He is the last foal of Purely Spectacular, who traces in tail female line to the great champion Emanicpation.
