One To Watch – Sale

Mark Smith - Sunday October 27

After disappointing on debut on a heavy track at Bendigo in July, Legacy Bay made no mistake at her second start when solidly backed in Sunday’s The Coffee Pit / No 1 Car Wash Maiden Plate (1100m) at Sale.

Ridden by Carleen Hefel for Peter Moody and Katherine Coleman, the royally-bred daughter of Zoustar turned back the challenge of the 5-year-old Alpine Eagle mare Lunar Module by one and three-quarter lengths with the 3-year-old Fastnet Rock debutant  Parchment back in third.

“She’s a very nice, extremely well-bred filly retained by her breeders, the Barham family,” Peter Moody said.

“We took her to Bendigo with high hopes. Unfortunately, there was a deluge before the race, and she couldn’t handle the occasion. We reset, and thankfully, she got the job done today with a lovely ride by Carleen.

“I would like to think she will work her way to town quickly now.”

A sister to the Group 1 MRC One Thousand Guineas heroine Joliestar, Legacy Bay is the sixth winner for top-class Fastnet Rock mare Jolie Bay, the winner of the Group II ATC Roman Consul Stakes and runner-up in the Group I VRC Coolmore Stud Stakes.

Jolie Bay is a sister to dual Group I winner Merchant Navy, Listed winner Setanta, and stakes-placed Zara Bay.

Jolie Bay has a yearling sister to Joliestar and Legacy Bay and foaled a filly by Horse Of The Year, Anamoe, on September 20.
