Stakes Goals for Unbeaten Star Witness Filly

Tara Madgwick - Saturday August 5
Exciting Star Witness filly Crown Witness made it two wins in as many starts when she defeated stakes-winning filly Madeenaty at Flemington on Saturday.

The Stuart Webb trained filly was an easy debut winner at Sandown on July 19 and did a great job in much tougher company to win this 1000 metre open fillies event by half a length.

Webb said he would monitor the filly, but suggested the Group III MRC Quezette Stakes (1100m) at Caulfield on August 19 was a suitable target for Crown Witness (image Darryl Sherer) .

"From early days she's been the best young horse in the place and she's gone on with it," Webb said.

"She's been in the system a fair while so we'll gauge where we are at.

"There's the Quezette in two weeks and I think she would be brilliant over 1100 metres around Caulfield.

"I thought the leader (Madeenaty) had skipped away then but she was brilliant to the line, as she was at Sandown."

Crown Witness as a yearlingCrown Witness was a $50,000 Inglis Premier purchase from the Golden Grove draft for Aquanita Racing and runs for Robert McLure and his family, who had so much success as part owners of the Stuart Webb trained multiple Group I winner Yosei.

Crown Witness is the first winner for South African Group I winner Noble Heir (SAFr).

Golden Grove sold a Shamus Award filly from Noble Heir at Inglis Premier this year for $50,000 and she has another filly by the same sire to follow.

The reigning Champion Australian Third Season sire, Star Witness made it a two state metropolitan double when three year-old gelding Arrestar saluted at Doomben.
