Promising Win for $1.3 million Karaka Sale-Topper

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday February 7
A blue-blooded colt by champion racehorse and leading sire Frankel, three year-old Tangmere was a show-stopper at the 2016 NZB Premier Yearling Sale and broke the ice for his first win at Randwick on Wednesday.

$1.3 Million NZB Premier sale-topper TangmereBred and offered for sale by Pencarrow Stud, Tangmere fetched $1.3 million to the bid of a syndicate BBA Ireland/Mr T Magnier/Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Maktoum/Niarchos Family/Mr A Ng and was given to Chris Waller to train.

Unplaced in two starts last year when he was slowly away on both occasions, Tangmere looked a more tractable proposition when resuming from a spell.

He was ridden back in the field by Kerrin McEvoy and was able to slide through along the fence after turning for home to score a powerful win in the 1400 metre metre maiden.

"It's a privilege to be training these types of horses," said Chris Waller.

"It was good to see him get the job done as he will certainly stay. Given his pedigree, anything is possible."

Tangmere is a sibling to Group winners Dolmabache, Pure Elegance and stakes-winner Cote D'Or being the fourth winner from royally bred Zabeel mare Our Echezeaux, a full sister to Group I winner Grand Echezeaux, the dam of Group I winner and sire Darci Brahma.

Cups Queen Ethereal is another close relation, so it's no wonder the sky is being seen as the limit for Tangmere!
