Look Out Sydney - Here Comes Yellow Brick

Mark Smith - Saturday October 12

Rounding out last season with success in the Listed Spear Chief Hcp at Eagle Farm, Yellow Brick opened his new campaign with a win in the Listed Weetwood at Toowoomba on September 28 before making it three in a row in Saturday’s Listed Tattersalls Members Cup (1400m) at Eagle Farm.

Ridden by Andrew Mallyon for Tony and Maddysen Sears, the 5-year-old son of The Mission made light of his 60.5kgs to defeat Cranky Harry (Spill The Beans) by two and a quarter lengths with The Drover (Bon Hoffa) back in third.

Yellow Brick advanced his record to eight wins, six seconds, and a third from 17 starts with earnings of $1,659,850.

“We were quietly confident coming here today,” Maddysen Sears said.

“He is a very good horse and we know how different he is on a wet track compared to a dry track. He put them away easily today and it was exactly what we wanted to see.

“He and Red Wave will be on a float heading to Sydney. I was sceptical about Red Wave, but after Nikau Spur (beaten by Red Wave in Toowoomba Cup) won the Listed Queensland Cup earlier in the day, I think both boys have earned a shot in the big smoke.”

Tony Sears Racing/Paul Moroney Bloodstock shelled out $20,000 for Yellow Brick from the Waylon J Stud draft at the 2021 Magic Millions Gold Coast National Yearling Sale.

Bred by Aquis Sha Tin Syndicate, Yellow Brick is one of three stakes-winners and the fifth winner overall from as many runners for the High Chaparral (IRE) mare Magical Mist, following Group III Rough Habit Plate winner Ballistic Boy (Smart Missile) and Group III Premier’s Cup winner Splendiferous (Pride Of Dubai).

Purchased for $60,000 by Twin Hills Stud/G1 Goldmine at the 2020 National Broodmare Sale, Magical Mist was a $775,000 buy for Yulong at the 2023 National Broodmare Sale, carrying a Maurice (JPN) colt.

Alabama Express covered Magical Mist in December.

Yellow Brick is the lone stakes winner for Aquis Stud’s Group 1 winning Choisir stallion The Mission, which stands for $4,400 in 2024.
