Back to Stakes Class for French Endeavour

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday October 9

Talented Rubick mare French Endeavour brought a touch of class to the midweek meeting at Randwick on Wednesday with a return to stakes company on the cards after her dominant length and three-quarter win.

A homebred for Hobartville Stud trained by Matt Smith, French Endeavour acquitted herself well in several Group races at three with a second in the Group III VRC The Vanity to Grinzinger Belle and a close third in the Group III ATC PJ Bell to Facile among her good performances.

Second at her first run back from a spell last month, French Endeavour took good improvement from the run and kicked clear as an easy winner of the Benchmark 78 over 1400m as a short priced favourite carrying 60kg.

“She was the class horse in the race and very talented, so this will build a bit of confidence for her and hopefully she can kick on from it,” said winning rider James McDonald.

Matt Smith was pleased to have French Endeavour back in the winning groove with her overall record now three wins and four placings from 15 starts with prizemoney just shy of $220,000.

The plan is to head back to stakes company and hopefully pick up the Black Type win she deserves.

French Endeavour is the best of three winners from French News, a winning half-sister to Group III winner News Alert  from the family of Golden Slipper winner Star Watch. French Endeavour is the final foal of French News, who has now retired.
