Uncle Bryn Shocks in Paris Lane Stakes

Mark Smith - Saturday October 5

A race-to-race double at Flemington for Gilltown Stud’s Sea The Stars as Uncle Bryn (GB) caused a boilover in the Winning Edge Presentations Paris Lane Stakes (1400m) before Just Fine (IRE) went coast to coast in the Group III Bart Cummings.

Ridden by Luke Currie for Trent Busuttin and Natalie Young, Uncle Bryn overcame traffic problems in the straight to defeat Plenty Of Ammo (Rebel Raider) by one and a half lengths with Comrade Rosa (Capitalist) a long-neck back in third.

From the same crop as Just Fine, Uncle Bryn advances his record to eight wins, two seconds, and two thirds from 24 starts with earnings of $906,594.

“I just thought he'd galloped really super through the week,” Natalie Young said.

“We gave him a couple more gallops (instead of going to Sandown last week) and really bring him on a little bit.

“It's hard when they are older horses and been off the scene a long time. Even walking around the yard today, he was so relaxed.

“He's all dappled up (and) he looks super. We just really love this horse.

“When you get a horse back from injury, it's extremely rewarding.

“I think at about 400m when Luke was trying to peel off a couple of backs to get him out wide. I knew he was going to have that turn-of-foot.

“Maybe even that little shower helped him.

“First-up, it was a heavy track. It was just a bit too testing for him. But today, he got all the favours.

“He's got a Toorak but it’s a week back-up. He's backed up before and got the chocolates. I don't know.”

Racing in the colours of Seymour Bloodstock, Uncle Bryn was a 130,000gns purchase for Blandford Bloodstock from the Chasemore Farm consignment at the 2019 Tattersalls October Yearling Sale. He was a talented performer for John and Thady Gosden, winning three of his six starts in Britain and placed in the Listed Blue Ribband Trial at Epsom.

A half-brother to the Group III Goodwood Prestige Stakes winner Boomer (Kingman), Uncle Bryn (GB) is one of five winners from as many to race out of the stakes-placed Singspiel mare Wall Of Sound.

Wall Of Sound is a half-sister to Group III John of Gaunt Stakes winner The Cheka (Xaar).
