Equimillion Starts Today – Dressage

The 2024 Equimillion gets underway at Sydney International Equestrian Centre today at Horsley Park and the first day of the event is all about dressage with many competitors using it as a second string warm up event for their eventing and or showjumping  classes which will unfold over the weekend, so let’s take a look at the draws and some of the familiar names.

Kolding won the inaugural Golden Eagle in 2019 - image Steve Hart

One of the former star racehorses competing in the dressage classes today is the former Chris Waller trained star miler Kolding, who retired from racing sound and well last year with the record of 11 wins from 49 starts with prizemoney of $6.6million.

His feature wins included the inaugural Golden Eagle and Group I victories in the ATC All Aged Stakes, George Main Stakes and the Epsom Handicap, which he won in 2019.

He will be ridden by Clare Oxley, who has owned Kolding since he was retired.

Zaaki is forging a great partnership with his new rider Charlie Richardson.

$11million earner Zaaki will be a crowd pleaser as he goes through his paces warming up for the eventing over the weekend with his new partner Charlie Richardson.

Classy imported stayer Chalk Stream (GB), who was bred by The Queen and won the Listed Australia Day Cup in January last year for King Charles will also be trying his hand at dressage with Tara Rogers taking the ride.

Also keep an eye out for former top South Coast sprinter Art Cadeau, winner of the 2021 Kosciuszko and now being ridden by Tayhla Vuleta.
