Exciting Plans for the Cosmic Force Filly Misting

Mark Smith - Wednesday October 2

David Vandyke has a long-range plan for the 3-year-old filly Misting after she became the third winner in two days for Cosmic Force with a last-to-first performance in the Spring Carnival Book Now Mdn Plate (1600m) at Eagle Farm on Wednesday.

Ridden by Angela Jones, Misting relished the 1600m, coming with a barnstorming finish to defeat Champagne Rouge (Stratum star) by two lengths with Stapleton (Calyx) back in third.

It was the third start for Misting, who made up plenty of ground in her first two starts over 1200m at the Sunshine Coast.

David Vandyke said he is eyeing the $NZ3,500,000 NZB Kiwi, a slot race held at Ellerslie Racecourse next March.

“I was a bit worried that she would find the line like she did, but she was dominant,” Vandyke said.

“There is a race called The Kiwi in March in NZ, a new race worth $3.5 million. It’s a slot race over 1500m at Ellerslie. I was talking to a slot holder before the race and said, ‘You better watch this go around’. I would love to be over there for that.”

Misting a $160,000 Karaka yearling

Bred by Hall of Fame Bloodstock, Misting was a $100,000 pinhook for Landsdowne Park when offered by Amarina Farm to the 2022 National Weanling Sale.

Landsdowne Park offered the daughter of Cosmic Force at the NZB Karaka Book 1 Yearling Sale, where David Vandke had the final say at $160,000.

Misting is the third winner for the Teofilo mare Cuban Gold, a half-sister to Group 1 VRC Lightning Stakes and Group 1 MVRC Australia Stakes winner Regimental Gal (General Nediym, the dam of the Group III Triscay Stakes winner Lilliburlero (Redoute’s Choice).

Cuban Gold has a yearling filly by Rubick and was covered by Gold Standard last spring.

Newgate Farm’s Cosmic Force had two impressive winners, Force Red and Cosmeena at Newcastle on Tuesday and has a leading chance in the Group III Breeders’ Plate at Randwick on Saturday with the Peter Snowden-trained Raging Force.
