One to Watch – Goulburn

Tara Madgwick - Thursday September 26

The lure of a $100,000 Inglis Xtra Maiden bonus saw this stakes class Dundeel colt head to Goulburn on Thursday and he duly strode home in a canter.

Trained by Chris Waller and ridden by Jeff Penza, Duvana made light of the heavy conditions to bolt away and win the 1500m maiden by four and a half lengths.

Duvana was an $800,000 Inglis Easter purchase for Kia Ora / TFI from the Arrowfield Stud draft and has spent much of his career to date running in Group and Listed races, so a drop back to maiden class proved the catalyst for a break through win that will bring confidence to a colt that should be suited over further.

Duvan was an $800,000 Inglis Easter purchase.

Duvana is  half-sister to stakes-winner Waltz On By and is the fourth winner from  four foals to race from Group I MRC Thousand Guineas winner Stay with Me, a daughter of Champion 3YO Filly Miss Finland.

Stay with Me has a yearling colt by Dundeel and is due to foal to him again.
