Irish Zoustar G3 Winner for Go Racing

Tara Madgwick - Sunday September 22

Widden Stud’s champion sire Zoustar produced a new stakes-winner overnight in Ireland where three year-old filly Je Zous took out the Group III Lanwades Stud Filly and Mare Stakes (1m1½ f) at Gowran Park.

Trained by Joseph O’Brien, Je Zous has been racing consistently in Group races this year with a couple of placings and a last start sixth of 15 in the Group I German Oaks following a fifth at royal Ascot in the Group II Ribblesdale Stakes.

Dropped back slightly in class and distance for this assignment, she proved much too good, surging clear for Dylan Brown McMonagle to win by a length and three-quarters to take her overall record to two wins and three placings from eight starts.

"She's a good filly, her runs are very solid this year and she was dropping down in class today. It's nice to win a Group race with her because she's been very consistent all along,” said Joseph O’Brien.

“I thought it was a very open, competitive Group race beforehand. Her run in Ascot was very good and she deserved to win a Group race. It was a good ride from Dylan.

“The owners are New Zealand based and she'll be going to Australia at some stage. Whether she has another run here or not on the way, we'll see."

Je Zous runs in the colours of New Zealand based syndicators Go Racing and was purchased for them by Blandford Bloodstock for €110,000  at the 2023 Arqana May Breeze Up Sale after selling as a Goffs Orby yearling for €60,000.

Je Zous is a half-sister to German stakes-winner I’ll Have Another, the dam of Group III winner Battle Cry, who is now racing in Hong Kong. She is the best of four winners from good producing Dylam Thomas mare Jessie Jane, a half-sister to blue hen Starfish the dam of five stakes-winners headed by Group I winning filly La Collina.

Zoustar is leading the Australian sires list for winners and stakes-winners this season.

Je Zous is the 58th stakes-winner for Zoustar.
