Sir Patrick Tribute at Karaka

Media Release - Wednesday January 31
Day four of the 92nd National Yearling Sale started on a poignant note as those present at the Karaka complex saluted the achievements of legendary Cambridge Stud principal Sir Patrick Hogan.

Sir Patrick and Justine Lady Hogan with their trophy and Sir Peter Vela – pic ex Darryl Sherer Hogan and wife Lady Justine announced the sale of Cambridge Stud to Brendan and Jo Lindsay, who take ownership in April this year, with their 2018 Karaka yearling consignment to be the last under the Stud's banner.

Hogan and the Cambridge Stud brand are synonymous with excellence and innovation in the breeding and selling of thoroughbred racehorses. During his 32 years of wearing the leading vendor crown at the National Yearling Sale, Hogan was first to introduce many of the features that are now regarded as commonplace among vendors.

Included amongst the many milestones achieved by Hogan in that time are the honour of selling the highest price yearling in the Sales history, a Zabeel colt for $3.6 million in 2000, along with the highest price yearling of the sale on a remarkable 24 occasions.

In a special presentation led by New Zealand Bloodstock chairman, Joe Walls, Sir Patrick and Justine Lady Hogan were presented with a specially engraved trophy bearing the details of those 24 sale toppers.

In his typical, combative style Hogan had the last say as he reminded those present that the sale wasn't finished and he needed every bid possible to sell his remaining 17 lots. - NZ Racing Desk
