Maiden Win for Expensive Exceedance

Tara Madgwick - Friday September 20

The most expensive yearling from the first crop of Vinery Stud’s promising young sire Exceedance, Jupiter Hills opened her account at Newcastle on Friday with a stylish victory.

Trained by Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott, Jupiter Hills has been showing steady improvement this preparation with each run and was fit and ready to fire in the 1400m maiden with Tim Clark in the saddle.

Given a positive ride, she led for home and kept up a strong gallop to hold off a determined bid from Extreme Diva, who was placed and competitive in several Group races last season at two.

A $380,000 Inglis Easter purchase for Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott Racing / Kestrel Thoroughbreds from the Vinery Stud draft, Jupiter Hills is a winner at her fourth start and will take plenty of confidence from the win.

Jupiter Hills was a $380,000 Inglis Easter purchase.

She is the second winner from Group II winner Miss Gunpowder, who comes from the family of Group I winner Absolut Glam.

Vinery sold a full sister to Jupiter Hills at Inglis Easter this year for $250,000 to Liam Howley Racing / Andrew Williams Bloodstock (FBAA) / Bevan Smith Bloodstock.

Jupiter Hills is the 15th first crop winner for Exceedance and is his eighth this season, five in Australia and three in New Zealand.

Exceedance stands at a fee of $33,000 this spring.
