Another Smart Winner for Zousain

Talented Zousain filly Amelita put the writing on the wall with her good recent trial form and she took it to race day at Canterbury on Wednesday to win at her first run back from a spell.

Trained by Chris Waller and ridden by James McDonald, Amelita was last seen finishing fifth to boom filly Clean Energy on a very heavy track back in May and appreciated a return to firm footing.

She led all the way and kicked clear to win the 1100m maiden by nearly two lengths at her third start.

“She had a beautiful run in transit and proved too good today,” said stable representative Charlie Duckworth.

“In time she’ll be better ridden with cover so she can harness her energy a bit better than she did today. There is plenty more to come, but the main thing is she has talent, so we will work out the rest.”

Amelita was a $280,000 Magic Millions purchase.

A $280,000 Magic Millions purchase from the Edinglassie Stud draft for Magic Bloodstock/Noel & Maria Greenhalgh/Julia Ritchie/Neil Werrett, Amelita is the first winner for Miss Amelia, a winning More Than Ready (USA) mare from Group II ATC Silver Slipper winner Amelia’s Dream.

Amelita has a full brother that was sold at Magic Millions this year for $200,000 to John O'Shea Racing/James Bester Bloodstock and she has another filly to follow by Zousain and was overed by him again last spring.

Amelita is the seventh winner this season for Zousain, who is the lading second crop sire by winners.
