The Winning Edge

Breednet - Friday September 6

You can’t beat timing … especially when it’s a well timed run to notch up an impressive victory on debut.

Stepping out over 1000m at Mornington on Friday, the Nick Ryan trained Winnasedge took it all in his stride and clearly has a promising future.

As for the ‘timing’, it certainly couldn’t come at a better time for his sire, Cliff’s Edge, who was relocated to the Mornington Peninsula’s Bombora Downs Stud earlier this year.

With the 3YO Winnasedge hailing from the first crop of Cliff’s Edge it augurs well for Bombora who are standing the 4-time Group winner at a bargain basement fee of $3,300 this spring.

“We simply couldn’t be happier,” Bombora’s Christoph Breuchert is quick to point out. “I loved him as a racehorse – record breaker at 2, (Group 2) Alister Clark winner at 3 and (Group 2) Crystal Mile winner at 4.

“At this stage Cliff’s Edge has had just the four runners : Winnasedge … Escarpa, who won on debut for Greg Eurell at the end of August … and 4-time runnerup Just Cliffy.

“For a bloke that stands at just $3,300 he should be a walk up start for anyone looking a breed to race stallion.”
