Akeed Mofeed's Second To Nun Triumphs in Leon Macdonald Stakes

Mark Smith - Sunday August 25

Dubawi's Hong Kong Derby and Hong Kong Cup hero Akeed Mofeed (GB) celebrated his arrival at his new home, Rosden Park, with a double at Morphettville on Saturday, including the day's feature, the Listed Sportsbet Leon Macdonald Stakes (1400m), with Second To Nun.

Ridden by Kayla Crowther for Will Clarken and Niki O'Shea, the 5-year-old mare looked to be treading water at the 200m before lifting when in clear air to defeat the Churchill (IRE) 5-year-old Attrition by a half-length with Nicolini Vito (Nicconi) third ahead of the favourite See You In Heaven (Divine Prophet)..

With her black-type breakthrough, Second To Nun advances her record to nine wins, two seconds, and two thirds from 26 starts with earnings of  $427,245.

Second To Nun was bred and part-owned by Racing.com form analyst John Kelton, who was delighted after the race.

"I'm a bit emotional as this horse means a lot to me as she does to all her owners," Kelton said.

"She is such a little trier and that was a fantastic ride by Kayla.

I might be biased, but that is a much-deserved black-type win. She has been a fantastic mare over the last six to nine months."

Sentiments shared by Will Clarken

"Her dam, Tidy Prophet, was such a good fun mare for us. She won a Lincoln Cup and a few other nice races, and this girl is proving to be even better," Clarken said. "These homebred horses can take a bit more time, but we've always thought she was worth waiting for, and she's vindicated that today.

"The Balaklava Cup is plan A, but it will depend on what weight she gets in that.

"There might be an option for her in Melbourne as well."

Akeed Mofeed

Second To Nun is the first winner from two to race for the Keep The Faith mare Tidy Prophet, who was third in the Listed Murray Bridge Gold Cup.

Tidy Prophet has a 2-year-old colt by Tagaloa and revisited the Yulong stallion last spring.

Second To Nun is the fifth stakes-winner for Akeed Mofeed (GB), who stands at Roslyn Day's Rosden Park for $2,200 this season.
