So You Think Mare On the Up

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday August 7

So You Think mare Mountain Top took a while to break her maiden, but was super impressive first up from a spell at Newcastle last month with her upward trajectory continued at Canterbury on Wednesday when she powered to another stylish win in the Benchmark 64 over 1550m.

Trained by Chris Waller, Mountain Top was ridden by James McDonald and with a couple of runners going out hard in front she was able to settle back in the field and hit the line hard to score by the best part of a length.

“The good speed allowed her to settle which was perfect stepping up from 1200 to 1550 and I think she’s in for a good preparation,” said Chris Waller.

“We’ll probably keep her at this trip for now and stretch her out further when we need to.”

Mountain Top was a $250,000 Inglis easter purchase.

A $250,000 Inglis Easter purchase from Fairview Park for Phil Cataldo Bloodstock, Mountain Top runs for a partnership that includes Tony Muollo and his family with her breeder Frank Cook of Mystery downs retaining an interest.

Mountain Top is the third winner from Mount Omei, a winning Fastnet Rock mare from the family of Cox Plate winning champion sire Savabeel.

Mountain Top has the pedigree to suggest there are more in store so will be worth sticking with as she progresses through her grades.
