Under the Radar – Rosehill Trials

Tara Madgwick - Tuesday August 6

Champion trainer Chris Waller is renowned for his ability to bring unheralded three year-olds forward quickly at this time of year and the stable produced three heat winners at the Rosehill trials on Tuesday morning that we are keen to have a closer look at including the filly that topped the 2023 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale.

Unraced Autumn Glow made $1.8million when offered by Silverdale Farm and bought by Arrowfield Pastoral / Hermitage Thoroughbreds at Inglis Easter, but there has never been any big hurry to get the long striding daughter of The Autumn Sun to the races with nature being allowed to take it’s course.

She was stepping out for her third trial this morning and second this preparation and worked to the line nicely to win her heat by half length for James McDonald.

She might be a three-quarter sister to Golden Rose winner In the Congo, but we’ve seen what fillies by The Autumn Sun can do over a trip last season, so you’d have to be thinking possible classic potential for Autumn Glow even though her female family is all about speed.

We had a look at Snitzel colt Gatsbys during the autumn when he won on debut as a heavily backed favourite in a very strong midweek maiden and then finished fourth in the Group III ATC Pago Pago Stakes. He looked bright and strong in his second trial back finishing strongly to win by a neck for James McDonald over metro winners Brave One and Braveheart.

A full brother to slick Group II winning filly Letzbeglam, Gatsbys runs for Aramco Racing and was a $220,000 Inglis Easter purchase from Vinery Stud.

Also ridden by James McDonald and carrying the Cambridge Stud colours was unraced Snitzel filly Take Achance On Me, who was having her second trial and first this preparation. She flew out of the gates, but was asked to settle and share the lead travelling with company before surging to the line to win by a head.

A $650,000 Inglis Easter purchase from Lime Country Thoroughbreds, Take a Chance On Me is the second foal of well related import Tell Your Mama (USA), a winning mare by outstanding broodmare sire Blame from stakes-winner Taletobetold with this US family achieving sensational success in Australia to produce Group I winners Home Affairs and Russian Revolution, who is also by Snitzel.
