Lingani a First Stakes Winner for Unheralded Stallion America

Mark Smith - Saturday July 27

With 56 foals from four seasons at stud, the royally-bred, three-start maiden, America, scaled the heights at Morphettvlle on Saturday with his first stakes-winner, the 3-year-old filly Lingani who triumphed in a dramatic Listed Sportsbet Lightning Stakes (1050m).

The drama began when the Magic Millions 2yo Classic winner Arabian Summer burst through the barriers and was scratched on veterinary advice.

With seven horses spread across the track at the 100m, Dominic Tourneur extracted everything Lingani had to offer to defeat the 2-year-old Written Tycoon filly Kuroyanagi with the 3-year-old Smart Missile filly Aviatress back in third.

A first stakes-winner for Peter and Belinda Blanch, Lingani advances her record to four wins and two seconds from eight starts with earnings of $183,395.

A homebred for a large ownership group, Lingani is the second winner from as many live foals for the Dee Beers mare Betty Butterscotch, whose lone win in 17 starts came at her debut at Strathalbyn.

"A group of guys from the mid-north of the state bred her," Peter Blanch told Racing.com.

"They have a mare that they breed out of every year.

"They are passionate hobbyists and have a lot of fun.

"The first foal out of the mare that they gave us was (3-time winner) Boolcunda King, who had a lot of ability and a lot of promise but had to be retired.

"This filly is the next one that came through, and she's doing a really good job in a short space of time.

"There's a Dedline filly that we broke in recently, and there's a Barood colt that is a weanling, and then I think the mare has gone off to Dalasan."

Dedline is a three-start maiden by Fastnet Rock out of the royally bred stakes-winner Peruzzi, a three-quarter sister to Octagonal.

Barood is a hard-knocking brother to Starspangledbanner.

America failed to strike a blow in three starts for Gerald Ryan. The son of Snitzel is out of the 4-time Group 1 winner Alinghi.

He stood four seasons, the last in 2020 when leaving seven foals. Like Dedline and Barood, America stood at Roslyn Day’s Rosden Park, near Murray Bridge, South Australia.

Lingani came from his penultimate crop of 14 foals.
