Pedigree Watch – Ireland 2YO G3 Rising Stars

Tara Madgwick - Friday July 26

Two Group III contests for juveniles over 7f were run at Leopardstown overnight and the winners of both will be headed for Group I goals and while we’ve seen exciting Frankel filly Bedtime Story at Royal Ascot, Too Darn Hot colt Hotazhell is a new stakes-winner for his young sire, who will finish the season in Australia as our Champion First Crop Sire.

The Group III Silver Flash Stakes (7f) was won by the Aidan O’Brien trained Bedtime Story, who kept her record at a perfect three for three with an easy three and a half length win for Ryan Moore.

“Bedtime Story was very green and in an ideal world he would have liked them to go a lot quicker. The education she got here is exactly what we were looking for and it was a great place to get it,” said Aidan O’Brien.

“She's very pacy and classy and I'd say it would be hard to go fast enough for her. All going well, she might go to the Curragh for the Debutante on the way to the Moyglare (G1).”

A homebred for the Coolmore partners, Bedtime Story is a three-quarter sister to Group III winner Content, who was second in the Group I Irish Oaks last week. She is the second stakes-winner among three winners from Dark Angel’s brilliant dual Group I winning sprinter Mecca’s Angel, a full sister to Group III winning speedster Markaz.

The Group III Tyros Stakes (7f) was won by the Jessica Harrington trained colt Hotazhell, who was having his third start following a debut fourth and then a win at the Curragh last month.

Ridden by Shane Foley, Hotazhell was strong late to beat Wootton Bassett colt Swagman by a length and a half.

“Hotazhell is a nice colt. They went a good gallop and he picked up well. He is tough and he just does enough. We might go for a nice race over 1m in September,” said Jessica Harrington.

Hotazhell was bought for 200,000 guineas by Silverton Hill at the Tattersalls Craven Breeze Up Sale having been bought previously for 70,000 guineas from the Tattersalls October Book 2 Yearling Sale.

Bred by Blue Diamond Stud Farm, Hotazhell is the first stakes-winner among four winners from Azenzar, a winning Danehill Dancer mare from the family of five time Group I winner Alexander Goldrun.

Hotazhell is the 11th stakes-winner for Too Darn Hot, who is not shuttling to Darley this year after four seasons coming to Australia.
