Hellbent Fillies Quinella at Canterbury

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday July 24

The two and three year-old fillies maiden at Canterbury on Wednesday delivered a quinella for Hellbent with three year-old filly Red Hot Lizzie leading all the way to win, while two year-old Bauhinia was an eye catcher with a storming run from last into second placing.

Trained by Ciaron Maher and ridden by Tim Clark, Red Hot Lizzie had one run last August finishing midfield at Kembla and has been on the sidelines since then barring one trial in December that led to a decision to spell her again in favour of further time to mature.

Since returning to work, Red Hot Lizzie has had two trials this month performing well enough in both to be considered a winning hope in this 1200m maiden.

Ridden a positive race by Tim Clark, she led and controlled the race going on to win by more than a length in a pleasing return.

“A lot of credit goes to the team for preparing her as they gave me the confidence to ride her like that,” said Tim Clark.

“I wouldn’t say she has an electric turn of foot, but when she hits top speed she can really maintain that and was strong late, so it was an encouraging return.”

Red Hot Lizzie made $18,000 as a yearling at MM National and was then re-offered through Magic Millions Online.

Red Hot Lizzie made $18,000 at the Magic Millions National Yearling Sale when offered by Yarraman Park and bought by Louis Bloodstock and was then re-offered through a Magic Millions Online Sale when bought by Dynamic Syndications/Dean Watt Bloodstock for a bargain $10,500.

Red Hot Lizzie was one of 22 fillies famously bought from that yearling sale at the Gold Coast by Rob Ferguson under the Louis Bloodstock pseudonym during a so called ‘medical episode’.

All of the fillies were later re-offered and sold online a couple of months later.

Red Hot Lizzie is the second winner from stakes-placed Mearas mare Anna Lizzie.
