Blue Point's Lano Makes Winning Debut

Lano, the lone first starter in the ten-horse field, captured the Glenroy Chaff Plate (1400m) for 2-year-olds at Belmont Park on Saturday to credit Blue Point (IRE) with his sixth winner in Australia.

Ridden by Willie Pike for Ashly Maley, Lano was the strongest in the closing stages to defeat the Universal Ruler gelding Cash Flow by a length, with the Sessions gelding The Top Bar a length back in third.

Lano was a $125,000 purchase for Paul Ferguson from the Lynward Park Stud draft at the 2023 Magic Millions Perth Yearling Sale.

The Van Heemst family-bred son of Blue Point is the first winner from two to race for the Alfred Nobel (IRE) mare Fontainebleau, whose five wins included the Listed WATC Belmont Oaks and Listed Starstruck Classic.

Fontainebleau has a yearling brother to Lano and a weanling filly by Russian Revolution. She was covered by Yes Yes Yes last spring.

Blue Point (IRE) returns to Darley Stud’s Northwood base in 2024, where he stands for $44,000.
