Dundeel Filly Dazzles in Listed Oaklands Plate

Tara Madgwick - Saturday June 29

The Listed SAJC Oaklands Plate (1400m) at Morphettville on Saturday was won last year by Coco Sun, who went on to win the Group I SA Derby last month and this year’s winner Femminile also looks to be a quality filly to watch next season.

The Phillip Stokes trained daughter of Dundeel was sixth ion debut at Sandown earlier this month, but took good benefit from the run and made light of the heavy conditions in Adelaide to run out a dominant length and a half winner for Kayla Crowther.

Femminile looked a forlorn chance turning for home, but with blinkers fitted for this assignment she hit the line like an express train zooming down the outside fence in the OTI colours for a dazzling victory.

“She’s a horse with a stack of ability and seemed to have got through the ground very well,” said stable representative Tommy Stokes.

“Full credit to the Pakenham team as she only arrived two days ago so we’ve just kept her happy since then and now she’ll go to the Sires Produce (G3 July 20) and we’ll probably tip her out after that.”

Femminile was a $150,000 Inglis Easter purchase.

Femminile was a $150,000 Inglis Easter purchase for Phillip Stokes Racing / Rick Connolly Bloodstock from the Vinery Stud draft and was bred by Aralet Pty Ltd. She is the first foal of stakes-placed Pierro mare Femme Fireball, a full sister to Group III winner Rock with her fourth dam the Group I winner Credit Again.

Vinery Stud sold a Bivouac yearling filly from Femme Fireball at Inglis Easter this year for $140,000 to Bennett Racing and she has a weanling filly to follow by Pinatubo (IRE) and is now in foal to So You Think.

Femminile is the 30th stakes-winner for Dundeel and is the seventh as a broodmare sire for Pierro.

Dundeel stands at Arrowfield at a fee of $88,000 this spring.
