Debut Winner for D’Argento

Tara Madgwick - Saturday June 29

Bowness Stud have a lot of faith in their gorgeous So You Think stallion D’Argento and he added a fourth winner to his tally at Newcastle on Saturday with an impressive debut victory for the Ryan and Alexiou trained gelding Bitten By Barry.

There was a short priced favourite for the 1300m juvenile contest in expensive $1.1million Snitzel colt Manos and with a furlong to go he did look the winner, but he was swallowed up at the finish by Bitten by Barry.

Ridden a patient race by Brandon Lerena, Bitten By Barry was the widest runner turning for home and unwound all the way to the line to win by a length.

Bitten by Barry was bred and sold by Bowness Stud.

A modest $35,000 Inglis Classic purchase for Best Gait Racing from the Bowness Stud draft at Inglis Classic, Bitten by Barry is a half-brother to good metro winner Starman and is the last foal and seventh winner from seven to race from terrific producer You’re Dreamin, a metro winning half-sister by Commands to stakes-winners Johnny Reb and Power of Pegasus.

Bitten by Barry is the fourth first crop winner D’Argento and two of those winners Rag Queen and Silva ‘n’ Suave are stakes-placed.
