Another Debut 2YO Winner for Written Tycoon

Tara Madgwick - Friday June 28

On track to be Champion 2YO Sire in both Australia and New Zealand this season, Written Tycoon produced another debut winner on Friday at Ballarat carrying the Yulong colours.

Trained by Peter Moody and Katherine Coleman, Judicial finished second to his stablemate Versaille in a recent trial at Traralgon and that filly proved the worth of the form when winning her debut on Thursday at Bendigo.

Judicial skipped clear under Luke Nolen to win the 1100m juvenile maiden by more than two lengths.

Nolen also rode Versaille when she won yesterday, so was confident about a good showing from Judicial.

“I’ve probably had more to do with her than him, but in all of his jumpouts he looked to be a free wheeling horse and he had the chance to travel nice and unimpeded,” said Nolen.

“There was a stiff headwind, which probably elevates the win a little bit more as he had to do it all into the breeze.”

Judicial was a $260,000 Inglis Easter purchase for Yulong.

A $260,000 Inglis Easter purchase for Yulong from the Vinery draft, Judicial was bred by Greg Perry and is a half-brother to stakes-winner Happy Go Plucky and Group II placed Cabeza de Baca from stakes-winning Hussonet (USA) mare Dirty, who has had eight foals to race all winners.

Dirty sadly passed away this year and Judicial is her final foal.

Yulong were the biggest buyer at Inglis Easter in 2023 securing 23 yearlings for $11.6million and 11 of those were by Written Tycoon and included his highest priced yearling at the sale  from Meryl that made $1.4million and is a winner under the name of Media World.

They were also co-purchaser with Aramco in another $1million Written Tycoon colt from Shoals that is named Chelsea, but is yet to race.

Judicial is the 19th 2YO winner this season for Written Tycoon, 15 in Australia and four in NZ, and they include Golden Slipper winner Lady of Camelot, Group I Sistema Stakes winner Velocious as well as Group winners Captured by Love and Althoff.

This crop of two year-olds were those conceived in the Hunter Valley when Written Tycoon had his one and only season at Arrowfield Stud at a fee of $77,000.
