Epaulette Filly Eternal Dominant on Debut

Mark Smith - Wednesday June 26

Dual Group 1 winner Epaulette set sail to Turkey in 2021, farewelling these shores with 51 foals from his final crop, which included the smart filly Eternal.

Trained by Chris Waller, Eternal made her racetrack debut in the Helen Cantwell Maiden Plate at Sale on Wednesday and won in the manner of a filly with a future.

Ridden by Jye McNeil, Eternal jumped smartly before drifting back in the field in search of some cover. With just three runners behind her,  Eternal saved plenty of ground when threading the needle between runners and blew past the Written Tycoon debutant Gambino by three and a quarter lengths, with the Written By filly Dreamwriter back in third.

“She gave me a lovely feel when she accelerated,” McNeil said.

“From the barrier, I wanted to cover her up and give her a good experience. She did not work and had an easy run, but I really like the way she quickened and put them away.

“She is still green on a rain-affected track, which is in fantastic order but still a bit puggy. “She needed a little help to get through that, but once she built up confidence, she accelerated impressively.”

Eternal is a homebred for Rosemont Stud, which purchased her dam Cameo for $210,000 from the Godolphin draft at the 2021 National Broodmare Sale when carrying the daughter of Epaulette.

The Group III Keith F Nolan Classic and Listed Scone Cup winner, Cameo has three winners from four to race, including the recent impressive Caulfield winner Jewellery (Lonhro).

Cameo shaping as an inspired buy for Rosemont Stud

The daughter of Shamardal had a colt by Hanseatic sell to MyRacehorse Pty Ltd/Anthony Freedman Racing Pty Ltd/Belmont Bloodstock Agency (FBAA) from the Rosemont Stud draft at the 2024 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

Cameo was covered by Russian Revolution last spring after missing in 2022.
