One to Watch – Wyong

Tara Madgwick - Friday August 4
This Lonhro youngster caught the eye in a recent Juvenile Trial Watch report finishing second to Thursday's smart winner Albumin, so it was no surprise to see him come out and win his debut on Friday.

The James Cummings trained Godolphin homebred Wander was a short priced favourite in the 1100 metre maiden and beat older horses to win by half a length.

Wander did just that coming around the home turn for Tommy Berry, but when he straightened up was able to find a change of gear under pressure and hit the line hard in a solid debut performance.

The three year-old gelding is a half-brother to Group II ATC Tulloch Stakes winner Gallatin from well -bred Mayfield (GB), a half-sister by Danehill to Group II winner Fractional and Group III winner Needlecraft.

The champion Australian Sire of 2010/2011, Lonhro sired the winners of over $7 million last season with six stakes-winners to his credit headed by Group I winner Impending.

The Darley favourite stands at a fee of $66,000 this spring.
