Juvenile Trial Watch – Warwick Farm

Tara Madgwick - Monday June 17

There were five heats won by juveniles at the Warwick Farm trials on Monday morning and they included unraced youngsters by Justify (USA) and Headwater, plus the half-sister to stakes-winner Commemorative that looks to have come back well.

Headwater has had a good year with his two year-olds posting 10 juvenile winners and the Blake Ryan trained gelding Hampden Bridge did everything right in his second trial this prep travelling nicely for Jay Ford, albeit wide all the way and working to the line under a hold to win narrowly.

A $50,000 Inglis Classic Highway Session purchase from the Ashleigh Thoroughbreds/ Riversdale draft, Hampden Bridge is a half-brother to a couple of winners from Highland Secrets and comes from a lesser branch of a very good family with his third dam Stella’s Pantry, a half-sister to Group II winning blue hen Twiglet.

Ciaron Maher is taking his time with Justify (USA) colt Axius, who had one quiet trial back in February, but appears to have come back with a lot more intent this time. He travelled up on the pace for Tommy Berry and when asked to find the line was able to skip away and win by a couple of lengths.

A $200,000 Magic Millions purchase from Coolmore for Dynamic Syndications/Dean Watt Bloodstock/Ciaron Maher Racing, Axius is from Orontes, an unraced three-quarter sister by Redoute’s Choice to Group I winning sprinter Takedown.

After a very slow start to the season, Blue Point (IRE) is starting get a few winners on the board and James Cummings might be about ready to send Photograph back to the races off this trial. She travelled well within herself for James McDonald covering ground all the way and winning under a hold. Photograph had two starts earlier this year for fourth placings and looks ready to improve.

Also keep an eye on Atomic Clock surging home for fourth. She’s a $600,000 half-sister to Willinga Beast by The Autumn Sun and if there is one thing we now know about that breed it’s that his fillies get better at three and over ground, so stick this one in your Black Book.

Photograph is a half-sister to this season’s exciting stakes-winning filly Commemorative from Group II placed Memorial, a half-sister to Group I winner Impending and to the dam of Group I winner Lyre from Group I winner Mnemosyne. Hard to imagine she won’t be winning a race somewhere and probably soon.

Additional winners were: Omaha Sand (Omaha Beach (USA) and Party Prophet (Divine Prophet).
