Tara Madgwick - Sunday June 16

The Inglis Great Southern Sale is done and dusted for this year, but a weanling filly that was bought from the sale in 2022 for $100,000 caught our eye on Sunday for both her pedigree and her talent.

Night Colours opens here account with an easy win - image Scott Barbour / Racing Photos

Conceived in the Northern Hemisphere, two year-old Night of Thunder filly Night Colours opened her account in style at Moe in a 1200m maiden against older rivals.

The Patrick Payne trained filly powered clear to win by three and a half lengths at her third start and second this preparation and is obviously on the improve.

Night Colours was purchased by Andrew Williams Bloodstock from the Three Bridges Thoroughbreds and carries the colours of the Tait family with Olly Tait having a great knowledge of international pedigrees from his years at Darley.

Night Colours is a three-quarter sister-in-blood to stakes-winner Lady Penelope and is the first foal of Tashaarock (IRE), a placed Invincible Spirit grand-daughter of stakes-winner Crossover that traces in tail female line to Somfas, a half-sister to legendary matriarch Franfreluche.

Fanfreluche has has had an incredible impact in Australia through descendants that include champion sires Encosta de Lago and Flying Spur and young guns Russian Revolution and Home Affairs.
