Juvenile Trial Watch – Randwick

Tara Madgwick - Friday June 14

There were seven heats at the Randwick trials on Friday morning with some interesting unraced winners by So You Think , Fastnet Rock and I Am Invincible and the reappearance of a well regarded filly by Written Tycoon.

The John O’Shea trained So You Think colt Bartolf was having his second trial and appreciated going from 740m to  1050m to work home and win his heat.

A homebred for Segenhoe, Bartolf is a half-brother to Group III winner Jal Lei from metro winning Exceed and excel mare Lesley’s Choice, a daughter of Group III winner Fumble.

The Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott trained Fastnet Rock colt Mayfair has now had two trials this prep and won both of them, so looks ready to go racing.

A $625,000 Magic Millions purchase for China Horse Club/Newgate/Go/Trilogy from the Newgate draft, Mayfair is the second foal of imported stakes-winner Cicatrix (USA).

The Michael Freedman trained I Am Invincible colt Carnegie Hill was third to Mayfair in his first trial last month and whosed good improvement kicking away to win by more than two lengths.

A $400,000 Magic Millions purchase from Yarraman Park, Carnegie Hill is the second named foal of Group III placed Aquamosa, who comes from a European family that has produced a progressive staying 4YO this year in the Sir Michael Stoute trained Group II winner Passenger, who holds an entry for Royal Ascot next week.

Also of interest was Written Tycoon filly Alinea, who was having her first trial this prep over 740m and after covering ground all the way she did best in a blanket finish out wide to take a narrow win. The Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott trained filly has only had two starts finishing fifth to Manaal in the Group III ATC Gimcrack Stakes last spring and then sixth to Lady of Camelot in the Group III ATC Widden Stakes.

She might be well placed in a maiden over the winter and her progress will be well monitored given her yearling half-sister by Snitzel sold for $1.25million at Magic Millions this year when bought by Sheamus Mills Bloodstock.

Also in the same heat was Celestial Bling, who was having her first trial after a debut second in the Gimcrack last year. The Gai and Adrian trained Capitalist filly was wide all the way and not asked to do much in the straight so her next trial will be interesting.

Additional winners were: Fortingall (I Am Invincible, Twirling (I Am Invincible and Bullfighter (Capitalist).
