Red Resistance New for Telemon Thoroughbreds

Tara Madgwick - Tuesday June 11

Telemon Thoroughbreds have announced a new addition to their roster for 2024 with brilliant juvenile Red Resistance to stand alongside Sun City, Sidestep, Jungle Cat (IRE) and The Odyssey.

Bred and raced by Sir Owen Glenn’s Go Bloodstock, Red Resistance was a fast and top class two year-old of the Waterhouse Bott stable winning brilliantly on debut in January before easily beating King’s Gambit to take the Group III ATC Canonbury Stakes by more than a length with Golden Slipper winner Shinzo in third place.

Second at his next start in the Group II ATC Todman Stakes (1200m), he showed his class splitting subsequent Group I winners Cylinder and Militarize to earn his place in the Golden Slipper, however an elevated temperature on race morning saw Red Resistance remain in his box.

He retires lightly raced and there is no question Red Resistance was right up with the best colts of his generation and is also the first son of Russian Revolution to retire to stud.

Dan Fletcher of Telemon Thoroughbreds is thrilled to have the opportunity to stand Russian Revolution in conjunction with Go Bloodstock, who will be supporting the exciting young stallion, who stands at a fee of $11,000.

"What’s so important is we’ve sort of come to recognise that the Group designation is not the be all and end all. There are plenty of precedents for horses that have been successful at stud without being Group I winners, but I think what they had in common was that they had established Group I ability,” said Dan Fletcher referring to champion sires such as I Am Invincible, Written Tycoon and even Not a Single Doubt.

“It’s really no fault of the horse that he didn’t get to fulfil his ability and actually attain that level on the racecourse, so he has retired very untapped and lightly raced.”

Red Resistance is a magnificent near black individual and is true to his pedigree being from brilliant fast Group II winning Lonhro mare Heatherly, who was bought by Go Bloodstock for $1.6million at the 2018 Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale.

‘‘Red Resistance is a horse dear to me and Go Bloodstock. We purchased his dam Heatherly specifically to visit Russian Revolution. Highly rated as a yearling, he delivered on the racetrack and was unlucky to miss the Golden Slipper when Gai rated him a winning chance. We believe in Red Resistance and will support him accordingly,” said Sir Owen Glenn.

RED RESISTANCE will stand for $11,000 GST Inclusive on Live Foal Terms with a limited number of Lifetime Breeding Rights available. It is anticipated these breeding rights will be sought after and we encourage breeders to contact the stud quickly to avoid disappointment.
