Juvenile Trial Watch – Warwick Farm

Tara Madgwick - Thursday January 4
Five juvenile heats at Warwick Farm on Thursday morning were won by some promising types including Magic Millions contender Bondi.

A $400,000 Magic Millions purchase for China Horse Club/Newgate TS/Winstar from the Strawberry Hill stud draft, the Peter and Paul Snowden trained Bondi is still a maiden after two starts, albeit in good company.

Bondi as a yearlingThe Snitzel colt was second on debut in the Listed ATC Breeders Plate to Performer and returned for an even third to Jonker in the Magic Millions Classic at Wyong last month.

Ridden with purpose by Blake Shinn, Bondi surged forward to lead under a hold and was given a slap up at the furlong and asked to find the line. He duly moved clear to win by a length and a half in 47:90 seconds which was the quickest of the five two year-old heats.

Bondi is from Bondi Blonde, a winning sibling to stakes-winners Danroad, Strawberry Boy, Newtown Jet and Tippitaka. the family also features smart stakes-winning three year-old Goodfella, who is also running at the Gold Coast on Saturday week in the Magic Millions 3YO Guineas.

Strawberry Hill stud will be cheering Bondi on as they will offer his full brother as Lot 558.

Astute trainer Rick Worthington has the happy knack of getting good results from a nice filly and he might have another in the shape of Snitzel filly Set Goals, who won her heat at her first public outing.

Set Goals as a yearlingShe showed pace from the barriers for Jason Collett to be up in a group just behind the leader, albeit wide and covering ground and then despite racing very tight in the straight she quietly worked to the line between runners to poke her nose in front on the line.

She will have got a good education from that outing and it will be interesting to see what she’s got when she’s off the bridle.

An $850,000 Magic Millions purchase for Rick Worthington from the Newgate Farm draft, Set Goals is the second foal of Your Life Style, a half-sister by Hussonet (USA) to Group III winner Precious Lorraine and stakes-winner Lucky Raquie from the all-conquering family of Redoute’s Choice.

Your Life Style was bought for $1.2 million by Newgate Farm from the Teeley Assets Dispersal in 2014 and is a three-quarter sister-in-blood to The Broken Shore, who is now the dam of Group I VRC Myer Classic winner Shoals.

Newgate Farm have entered a full sister to Set Goals for the 2018 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale.

Other two year-old trial winners were Positive Peace (Stratum), Dio D’Oro (Medaglia D’Oro) and Haunting Spirit (Snitzel), click here to see all the trial results.
