$500,000 Frankel Colt Gets the MM National Party Started

Tara Madgwick - Sunday May 26

The Magic Millions National Sales has kicked off on Sunday at the Gold Coast with weanlings and one of the early highlights has been a colt that could have been just as easily have been offered Tattersalls or Goffs Sale and has a three-quarter sibling racing later tonight in the Group III Gallinule Stakes at the Curragh.

Consigned by Coolmore, the Frankel colt from Australian Group I winning Fastnet Rock mare Amicus was a standout on pedigree and type with Cunningham Thoroughbreds/Clarke Bloodstock Pty Ltd (FBAA)/Bjorn Baker Racing snapping him up for $500,000.

$500,000 Frankel colt from Amicus

Just like other Group I wining Fastnet Rock mares Sea Siren, Nechita and Atlantic Jewel, Amicus was sent to the Northern Hemisphere to begin her stud career for Coolmore and her five seasons of being covered by Galileo has produced four named foals and the two that have raced are Group placed Okita Soushi and this year’s talented three year-old colt Chief Little Rock.

Okita Soushi contested both the Caulfield and Melbourne Cups last year finishing midfield when trained by Joseph O’Brien and has remained in Australia with Ciaron Maher his new trainer and the Aidan O’Brien trained Chief Little Rock is yet to miss a place in five starts.

He was third in the Listed Epsom Blue Riband Trial in his seasonal return and runs later tonight in the Group III Gallinule Stakes over 1m2f.

Amicus came to Australia last year in foal to Frankel with her $500,000 colt the result of the mating and she is now in foal to St Mark’s Basilica (Fr).
